Magazine Front Cover

This is my Magazine Front Cover for the magazine sOunD iQ. This is a special issue of the magazine which costs £2.50, as stated in the Publication Plan of the magazine. The main image is of my brother Ken Iredia, who is the rapper with the exclusive story as a puff which says "Ken Iredia on new album(Chronic), family and future plans. The bar code is on the bottom right-hand corner of the magazine. It contains the website address, the date and the price of the issue of the Magazine.
There is a Pug where it says "Win Tinie Tempah UK tour London 02 Academy VIP tickets" This is to entice the readers of the magazine as Tinie Tempah is an ever-rising star of the UK urban scene. The Album Reviews are of the Kaizer Chiefs, Rihanna, Beyonce and Kate Iredia on her return to the charts. There is a photo of Kate Iredia as well as Jennie Iredia, who is featuring on a double page spread article in the magazine issue.

Thursday 9 December 2010

This is the sOunD iQ magazine. It is based on Q magazine because it is a mixed magazine. It is called Sound IQ because it beleives that it has the best taste for different sorts of music and musicians. It will be a monthly magazine that costs £3.50 and also has special magazines mid-way through each month. I chose blue with some rough inky black to make it match the planet to make it look more international but the inky black to make it seem raw and more art like than other mixed mags, giving it a different image to the other mixed mags.

Analysis of Questionnaire
This is the questionnaie. I gave copies of this to various people from various groups and backgrounds. For the first question, I found that most people seemed to want a magazine with a wide range of musicians.
On the second question, most people were willing to pay between £2-£4 for a magazine, which is something that will come into serious thought when creating the first draft of my magazine.
On the third question, it was almost unanimous that people read magazines once a month.
The fourth and fifth questions were the most important for the decision of what style my magazine would be. The fourth question brought a wide divide of interests and so did the fifth question as well. This gave me the final push i needed to decide to do a mixed magazine to unite all these divides of interest togehter into one.
The sixth question was just to know if people go to any other places to buy their magazines other that local newsagents. Some people go to all lengths to buy their favourite magazines, including "2-hour long journeys" just to get their favourite magazine.
With my findings of a wide divide of interests, A mixed magazine seems by far the best choice for me to do.

Feature Q Magazine

This is the Q magazine, I chosen to use this as my inspiration for my magazine sOunD iQ. This is because Q magazine is a mixed mag. It has the main image of madonna, the "Queen of Pop" but also has bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, so it doesn't sway in any direction when it comes to its music style. Based on my Questionnaire, my magazine is going to be like the Q magazine.

                                                       Publication Plan

Title
The masthead title of my magazine will be called sOunD iQ

Positioning statement/selling line
The selling line of my magazine will be The Uk's Music Magazine I decided that this would be the selling line of the magazine because it goes with the magazine's boastful arrogance that we know what's best for the music scene in the Uk.

Frequency of Publication
This magazine will be published once every month, apart from the special issues that may come out in the middle of the month.

Price
Based on the questionnaire, people wanted a  once a month magazine, that cost from £2-£4. I have decided to make my magazine cost £3.50 with the special issues costing £2.50.

Distribution
The magazine will be distributed by IPC media. It will be distributed in local newsagents up to big-chain supermarkets.

Rationale
The magazine offers its own perspective on star musicians from various types of music.

Sytle
The magazine has a target audience for people who can enjoy various forms of music and like various artists.

Regular Content
The regular content of the magazine is the artist feature that appears on every issue. Also there are photo shoot pictures that are on show in the magazine in every issue aswell.

Masthead idea

This is my idea for a magazine masthead. It is called Music Mania. This is a mainstream music-based magazine that has the target audience of mainstream music listeners. It is based on the Vibe magazine .I shaped the masthead to look sort of like a chocolate bar that you just can't enough of. This can also be used as a comparison to mainstream music which is filled with eye-candy. The masthead is bold and in your face like the mainstream artists.

Masthead Ideas for my music magazine front cover

These are some of the suggestions that I have chosen for my music magazine. There are 5 ideas.

Mass MAG:
I want this magazine to be targeted at a mainstream audience. I believer that the name is a very good notion to the target audience I am searching for. I decided the colour as gold because these are the most famous musicians, and I chose a red background to make the gold stand out more, much like these artists stand out in terms of the knowledge.

Music Village:
I wanted this to be based on a more instrumental musician audience. The sort of magazine that focuses on what the best of instruments are and also what bands are using a vast array of instruments. This magazine is targeted at the musician.

Musica Appello:
This is a style magazine, but with exclusively with musicians and singers on the covers and articles that focuses on musicians and singer's life stories or album reviews. This is targeted for an audience who like their fashion in musicians as well as their songs. I have decided to have the masthead in Italian as I though it would sound better than Music Appeal which is the name in English.

Sound IQ:
This is a magazine that focuses on genres like Punk, Emo, Heavy Metal, Rock and Alternative Rock. This is an arrogant magazine that believes that this is the best kind of sound. The Magazine Sound IQ suggests that the magazine is bragging that it is the only one with the right IQ for music and sound.

Classicals:
This is for the listener of Beethoven, Mozart and new classical composers all over the world. The masthead is Called Classicals because of the the "Classics" of songs that people say are the best songs, only the masthead Classicals suggests that this is the best kind of music and the best magazine of this genre of music.

NME MAGAZINE

This is the my version of the NME magazine. We were asked to use a masthead of a magazine cover of our choosing, within the mastheads offered to us. I chose NME magazine. The main image is of my sister Jen.
There are two pictures on either side of the mast head. These pictures relate to their respective headlines. The is a Puff where it says "Brandon Flowers, A week in the life". This is an exclusive interview with Brandon Flowers, which is sure to entice the readers to see more into the magazine issue and into his life.
The main headline is of Jen Iredia who has spent a few years as a super model, but now has got herself an indie band, and has produced a widely approved indie album. The readers are supposed to see Jen Iredia as a familiar face to the world media and will be interested in reading the reviews of a someone who has completely changed her image and scene.
The Bar code is on the bottom-right hand corner. It shows the price of the magazine at £1.99, and it also shows the website address, www.NME.com. At the bottom there are acts who's albums and live performances are being reviewed by NME magazine. This will give the audience an insight into what is to come further on into the magazine issue.
There is a pug where it says Win backstage access tickets to Green Day, another enticing offer, but on a commercial based venture to get more readers for the magazine in general.
There is a headline that says "Scarlett Johansen New Album Review" This is the same sort of proposition an Jen Iredia as they have both gone into a transition into a new image.
There is a date at the right of the front cover, and also the slogan "New Music Express".
This was produced on Microsoft Word and then print-screened into paint and saved there. I then inserted the image into the blog.

MAGAZINE COVER 4

This is the Music Planet magazine. The main image is a guitar. This suggests that the magazine is more of an instrument-based music magazine and not on the mainstream pop musicians. The sort of readers who will be reading this are musicicans trying to increase their instrumental and composition skill. Therefore the Puff "Beginners Guide, Computer Music" will make them want to read on further into the music magazine. On the title of the magazine "Music Planet" the word planet is coloured in blue, to reflect the earth. This is to show that this is a magazine for music lovers all over the world. This is a magazine for instrument lovers, so the Pug "Buying An Acoustic Guitar" will entice a few of the readers who are interested in buying an acoustic guitars.
This magazine isn't for mainstream pop,so an srticle with "The Subways" who are an underground band, is something that is good for their image as a non- mianstream magazine.

Analysis of questionnaire

Nosa Iredia blogs:
I found that on my questionnaire each question had answers of a higher percentage than all the other answers. Most people seem to want to see comedic humour on the magazine. Most people read magazines sometimes.Half of the people want to change the 1 lesson for 5 hours a day strategyA lot of the people would read 4-7 magazines a monthAlmost all the people seemed to not want to be associated with the school in a shared identity
I produced this questionnaire on Microsoft word.

Magazine Cover 3

This is the "Rolling Stone" magazine. It features Amy Winehouse as the main image. She is the blocking the title of the magazine, so this shows that they have confidence in their title. The Puff "Guiliani, worse than Bush" will entice the readers as George Bush is known as someone who is in a negative position with most of the world.
"Amy Winehouse" is written in bold font to signal her importance to this issue while being the same light blue font as the magazine title to blend her name with the magazine. There are also bands mentioned in this like "The Police", "The White Stripes", "Velvet Revolver" and also "Dave Matthews in mentioned in the front cover.
The bar code is on the bottom-left hand corner of the front cover of the magazine.

Contents 2

This is the Drummer Music Magazine contents page. It has the date at the top. It has the main image of a drummer with his drum set, with a page number next to it to show what page number the "Exclusive" article is. The word exclusive is highlighted to try to gain the attention of readers, so that they can read on further into the magazine. It features the band "The Kooks". The readers of this Magazine may like the same type of music that the Kooks realease. It also has the "Regulars" to bring to the attention of their older readers, to see that they still have the same contents as before, that maybe being the reason why they liked it in the first place. Each headline content is in bold to highlight the importance of the headline.

Magazine cover 2

This is the BBC Music Magazine. The main image is the image of Sarah Chung, who is being interviewed for by the magazine. There is a Puff which says "Over 125 Reviews". Which is a means of getting  the magazine reraders to read on further into the magazine. The image of Sarah Chung is blcoking the image of the Title, which is a sign of confidence from the magazine, however the "BBC" name can still be seen on the magazine. There is the pug "Free CD, Plus access free music online. This is put to attempt to entice the readers of the magazine to read on, using commercial means. The Barcode is at the bottom right of the magazine. The font for "Sarah Chung" is bold to highlight her improtance. The font colour is read which goes with her light red dress. The BBC Music Magazine is the best-selling classical music magazine.

Magazine Contents page 2!

This is the Q magazine contents page. The image of main image of the contents page is the band "The Courteeners", with the number 38, to show what page number the story on them, is. It has the content of "Oasis, Meet the other three" This will perhaps get people to want to read more, as not much is said about the other three. They aslo write about the reviews they are doing on "134 music albums" and "166 music dvds" etc.
They are very confident in themselves as they write "The world's biggest and best music guide.
They write about what they have every month on every issue.

Magazine 1!

This is the Q magazine. It features Madonna as the cover masthead of the magazine front cover. There is a puff where it says "The 50 best british albulms, as voted by you". This entices the audience to read on in the magazine. "Madonna" is written in bold font, to signal her importance to music, and she also blocks the title slightly. This shows that the magazine cover are not afraid to share the space as they have the belief that they are big enough for people to know who they are.
There is a pug that says "Free inside! 70 page special, Women in music" This is a commercial means of getting people to buy the maghazine.
There are lists of celebrities names like "Russel Brand and "Michael Stripe" and also celebrities opinion on things like "Robert Plant on Led Zeppelin"
It is a pretty big magazine considering it has "196 pages" on this issue and the bracode is on the side. They are very confident in themselves. they write "Britains best magazine.

Saturday 13 November 2010

This is the Freedom magazine. I decided to go with the Big Brother approach and talk about ex Big Brother contestants cause it is relevant to now. I used Microsoft word to do this and then print screened this into paint.
It has the Pug, "Win tickets to Wrestle mania 2011" as the tickets just went on sale.

Sunday 7 November 2010

Codes and conventions task 3

This is Film X magazine, There is a Halloween theme for this magazine, so there is the question what is the "Scariest Halloween film of all time" The text is in red to match the blood on the face. With gold text to highlight some of the text.

Codes and Conventions task 2

This is the Pitch magazine. It is a front cover of Marilyn Manson. I highlighted the text box with the Puff "Win a date with Justin Bieber" Which is something that could entice the masses in some way. I used Microsoft word for this. With the text in gold

Friday 5 November 2010

Evaluation of Codes and conventions task.

For the codes and conventions task, we were given the task of using different magazines and filling them with text using the skills that we learnt in the lessons. We tried to make the text boxes blend in with the text boxes.

For film X there was a picture of a man painted white with blood running down his face. I decided to use white text boxes and red text because it goes with the White painted man with blood running down his face.

For Pitch there is a picture of a Maryln Manson. I decided to use black text boxes as it goes well with Marylyn Manson's black hair colour.

For Photography Now there is a picture of a plane with smoke coming out of it. I decided to use sky blue text boxes as it goes well with the colour of the sky.

For freedom there is a picture of an eye with the assumption that we are being watched. I decided to make the text boxes black because it goes well with the black stripes on the magazine cover. The text boxes also point to make it look like it can see you and it's telling you to read it.
This is the contents page of my magazine. It has pictures of recent Sixth Form events like the Year 12 Geography. I used information from my questionnaire to decide what to put on the contents of the magazine.

Sunday 31 October 2010

Prelimenary Task

This is the full front page of the Sixth form magazine. I chose a picture of me as the cover and I have added different news stories of the time on there. Using the skills we learnt in lesson I applied these news stories in the same way they would be applied on a normal magazine front page.
I used microsoft word to add the text boxes on and then typed on them. I then removed the outline and the fill of the text boxes and print-screened it into Paint. I then copied and pasted it into Paint.Net and saved it under the file of Jpeg.

Friday 29 October 2010

Codes and Conventions task 1

This is the photography now magazine. I have added text boxes on Microsoft word then print screened it into paint. I removed the text boxes but left the original picture as the cover of the magazine. I have used one puff for this magazine front page

IMAGE MANIPULATION

For the image manipulation task, we were to change our image and make it into something different.
I decided to crop the image and then put a masthead at the top as the title of the sixth form magazine
This magazine cover shows hollywood starlet Scarlett Johanson in a clearly visible pose while still making sure the name of the magazine is seen.
I wanted to show a magazine with a pug which can be seen as the red circle which grabs peoples attention
